Agot Isidro’s post on Facebook on October 7 drew much attention when she directed her strong-worded sentiments towards President Rodrigo Duterte.
The post was addressing the chief executive’s policy towards the United States and the European Union, both of which has provided the Philippines with millions worth of relief efforts in the aftermath of super typhoon Yolanda.
In Isidro’s post, she dared to call the president a psychopath, a comment which earned the ire of the president’s loyal supporters, and gained the actress nation-wide attention.
Netizens were quick to lambast the actress with ad hominem arguments that attack and insult Isidro personally rather than address her post.
Meanwhile, many of Isidro’s fellow artists from the entertainment industry has expressed their support for the actress despite the many bashers and trolls.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News, fellow actress Cherry Pie Picache expressed her support for Isidro.
“Artista po kami. Nasa arts and culture kami pero may utak po kami at paninindigan at prinsipyo.” – Cherry Pie Picache
Director Andoy Ranay also expressed his support for Isidro through a tweet by using the hashtah #ISupportAgotIsidro.
Comedian Cynthia Patag also shared her thoughts through a tweet, saying that she sees nothing wrong with what Isidro said about Duterte. She also said that Isidro was just telling the truth.
Meanwhile, on Facebook, comedian Ogie Diaz posted a plea not to bash Agot Isidro.
Netizens who are in support of Agot Isidro also dug up the actress’ educational background and credentials as proof that she is qualified to express her opinions on international relations.
She has a double undergraduate diploma. She graduated as Magna Cum Laude from the University of the Philippines Diliman with a degree in Interior Design. She also graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York with a degree in Fashion Buying and Merchandising. She also has a Master’s Degree in Communications from Ateneo De Manila University.
