Angel Locsin is Darna No More and This Time It’s Final

In a heartfelt post on her Instagram account today, March 21, Kapamilya actress Angel Locsin finally bid good-bye to being Darna.

The 31-year old actress shared her sentiments regarding her role as Darna on her social media, and revealed that she felt privileged and honored to have portrayed the iconic Filipino superhero at least once in her lifetime.

In 2015, the actress kept mum when asked if she was set to reprise her role as Darna. She refused to be considered for the role as she was nursing a delicate spine injury due to a bulging disc. This unexpected injury greatly hampered the actress for such a physically-demanding role.

Her subsequent spine operation abroad also required some time for recuperation, resulting to an indefinite hiatus from different projects for the actress.

Back in 2016, names of different young actresses floated within the showbiz grapevines as being touted to be the next one to portray the coveted role of Darna in a TV/movie project.

Among the resounding names backed by netizens to portray Darna were young actresses Nadine Lustre, Liza Soberano and even Jessie Mendiola.

However, the rumors were once and for all put to rest when Star Cinema Boss Malou Santos announced on September 2016, that Angel Locsin was reprising her role as Darna. This is more than a decade after the actress first donned on the superhero costume.

Finally, a few months after the project and the lead actress were confirmed, Angel Locsin announced her failed bid to reprise the role.

She shared that she was feeling pain on her back again, and an appointment with her doctor ended her future plans to reprise Darna. The actress explained that she had to think of her health and her life, too, and that she did her best to reprise Darna, but it just wasn’t possible.

On her Instagram post, Angel gracefully welcomed the news lucky lady who will have the opportunity to portray Mars Ravelo’s iconic Filipino superhero.
