The Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) officially launched a new mobile application during the closing ceremony of the 2016 National Peace Consciousness Month program.

The mobile app is called Peace Buddies Organizing for Change, or PeaceBOC for short.

The new mobile application is aimed at Filipino millenials, and the youth sector. It provides updates on the initiatives and policies of the government in the peace negotiations as a way to update the youth and inspire their involvement.

The app also has a crowdsourcing campaign aptly called “The President’s Peace Challenge” and runs with the theme “Tayo ang Pagbabago, Tayo ang Kapayapaan”.

The PeaceBOC app allows the youth to give their insights, thoughts and opinions through self-recorded videos about the peace negotiations conducted by the government with various groups in the country, including the Communist Party of the Philippines, the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF), the New People’s Army, and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF).

The government hopes that the app inspires youth participation in the policy-decision-making process by sharing their thoughts on the peace negotiations between the national government and the various sectoral and ideological groups in the country.

According to Jesus Dureza, Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, the new generation has provided a new approach in peace communications, and the support from the youth sector in the peace process will hopefully give them the help they need to move forward with such difficult undertaking.

Dureza also has formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the University of the Philippines (UP) for their technical assistance regarding the peace negotiations between the NDF, the CPP’s political arm, and the national government.

Dureza is also a member of the peace panel of the government, and he is set to travel to Oslo, Norway, for the second part of the peace talks with the National Democratic Front.

The PeaceBOC application is now available for download for both apple and android devices.
