Pinoy ingenuity and humor knows no bounds, especially when it comes to social media and popular culture.
Case in point: this Facebook user’s take on the idea of having a Pinoy version of the hugely popular fantasy television series Game of Thrones from HBO.
Henri Gio threw the hypothetical question out into the pinoy interwebs: What if Game of Thrones had a franchise on Philippine television? What then?
He then went on to make photoshopped mock-ups of the Game of Thrones characters combined with the faces of local television actors and actresses to make his own personal casting for the series.
Gio’s personal casting choices are the following: Angel Aquino for the role of Cersei Lannister, Kylie Padilla as Daenerys Targaryen, Tirso Cruz III as Tywin Lannister, Joem Bascon at Khal Drogo, Paulo Avelino as John Snow, Arjo Atayde as Ramsay Bolton, Dawn Zulueta as Catelyn Tully, Gretchen Barreto as Melisandre, Beauty Gonzales as Gilly, Pilar Pilapil as Lady Olenna Tyrell, Jodi Sta. Maria as Margaery Tyrell, Maja Salvador as Ygritte and Gerald Anderson as Robb Stark.

Game of Thrones is a fantasy television series based on the books written by George R. R. Martin. It was created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, and is aired on HBO.
The series is a critical commercial success ever since it started airing, and is even credited to be the most pirated television series ever. Then again, the series was so popular that even if it was the most pirated television series in history, it still rakes in millions in profit.
Gio’s casting mock-ups were posted just in time for the release of Game of Thrones Season 7, which will air starting on July 16, 2017.
As of this porting, Henri Gio’s casting mock-ups for Game of Thrones Tagalog Edition has earned over 13,000 reactions, and over 14,500 shares.
