While the Philippine National Police has been getting a lengthy bad rap because of the many reported incidents of corruption of scalawag police officers, we can’t simply let the misdeeds of a few bad ones completely paint our police officers in a bad light.

Meet PO2 Miguelito Carranza of Burgos, La Union.

He is a running enthusiast and has headlined many trail-running events in the Philippines. He has even conquered the King of the Mountain competition, which is considered as one of the most challenging trail-running events in Asia.

Carranza is the only one among uniformed personnel in the Philippines to qualify for the Ultra Trail Mont du Blanc trail-running event in France. It is one of the most sought-after trail-running events for every trail-runner in the world.

The Ultra Trail Mont du Blanc trail-running event in France is considered as one of the most challenging foot races in Europe. It will be held this coming August 26 to September 3, 2017. The contest will also have participants from 85 different countries, and will be covering 170-kilometers of trail-running as the main event.

Before embarking on his professional career as a police officer and a trail-running enthusiast, Carranza credits sports for being a huge help in getting him through college. He shared that he was able to finish his tertiary education through sports as an athletic scholar.

He also shared that while he is not as fast, or as strong as the other runners, he will do his best to reach his dreams. He said that participating in the Europe trail-running event is very important to him because he is given a chance to carry the Philippine flag, and a chance to give honor to his fellow police officers.

According to Police Senior Inspector Jovelyn Flor, OIC Chief of the Burgos PNP, every time that Carranza has a running competition, Burgos Police Station has always given its full support, even the provincial and regional headquarters, as well as the local government unit of Burgos.

In order to participate for the said event, Carranza will need PHP13,000 for his registration alone. He is humbly asking for financial support for his competition.

You can reach Carranza via his Facebook.
