To Paris With “Gugma” – An Ilongga Fashion Designer’s Runway Dream Come True

We love amazing stories about people, perseverance and perfect moments, especially ones that are products of one’s unyielding tenacity to pursue his, or her passion.

Meet Audrey Albason, a native Ilongga, and a nursing degree holder. She hails from what is locally dubbed as “City of Love”, Iloilo, Philippines, but recently graced one of the fashion runways all the way from the other side of the world in Paris.

Surreal isn’t it?

While Audrey is a nursing graduate, fashion has always been one of her passions, and she pursued it by taking a course on basic fashion designing.

Who knew that a passion project would land her a spot at the Oxford Fashion Studio show, during the Paris Fashion Week, no less!

Audrey was able to catch the eye of one of the organizers of the Oxford Fashion Studio show through her posts on Instagram. The social media platform was where she shared her pieces and creations with her friends and followers, and it’s also what ultimately brought her to Paris!

Taking inspiration from her roots and her passion, Audrey’s fashion collection is called “Gugma”, the Ilonggo word for “Love”.

Her Gugma Collection combined classic silhouettes and intricate embellishments in her pieces.

She also shared that her collection was made with the working mom in mind, saying that her pieces are for hard-working mothers who just want to feel special once in a while.

Audrey shared that the chance to showcase her pieces during the Paris Fashion Week was something unexpected, but she explained that she is very grateful for the opportunity to have been able to expose her brand to a much bigger market and a much bigger audience.

And while we have no doubt that Audrey’s exposure during the Paris Fashion Week has definitely boosted her cred as a fashion designer, Audrey promised that her designs will remain affordable for her local clients.
