I rarely see people use e-cigarettes now, because apparently, it’s “vaping” that is more popular. According to Society for the Study of Addiction or SSA, vaping has been proven to be the best way to quit smoking. It is 60 percent more effective than other methods such as the use of nicotine gum or patches.
As per VaperSoul – a community for people who love vaping, quitting smoking is one of the healthiest things a smoker can do, and getting the nicotine in another form can help. The Tobacco Dependence Program at the UMDNJ-School of Public Health has acknowledged that stopping smoking can be a hard time, and that nicotine replacement products are safe to use for as long as the person’s purpose is to stop cigarette smoking addiction.
E-liquid that is used for vaping is composed of ingredients which are considered harmless — people thought so, in which most juices are mixed with vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, nicotine and flavoring – which are all considered harmless. So, it leads us to the question, why is vaping as unhealthy as smoking cigarettes?
There is research done by the UNC Center for Environmental Medicine, Asthma and Lung Biology that indicates vaporizing might suppress immune genes, effectively causing smokers greater complications in the body’s immune genes than cigarette smoke.
The Huffington Post UK reports findings of a small study were recently presented at the European Society for Cardiology Congress, which showed the result that vaping an e-cigarette for 30 minutes had similar effects on the aorta (the body’s main artery) as smoking a regular cigarette for 5 minutes.
As a result, the aorta became stiffer, which makes it harder for your heart to pump blood. The study researcher Professor Charalambos Vlachopoulos of the University of Athens Medical School, told HuffPost UK that that while there is still not a lot of information on the long-term effects of vaping “they are far more dangerous than people realize. I wouldn’t recommend them now as a method to give up smoking. I think the UK has rushed into adopting this method.”
It is safe to say that, one should still be careful with the effects of vaping even if it is the “lesser evil” than smoking a cigarette.
